Men's water polo alum leads CUI to program's first ever conference title.
The Golden West Rustlers successfully defended the Orange Empire Conference (OEC) championship earlier this month, and with that accomplishment were well-represented on the All-Orange Empire Conference Team. The Rustlers had eight players earn all-conference recognition after a perfect OEC campaign.
COSTA MESA – The last time the Golden West College men’s water polo team did NOT win an Orange Empire Conference title, the price for a gallon of gasoline was $1.15. As of Saturday, that’s STILL the last time the Rustlers came up short thanks to a hard-fought 15-13 win over Orange Coast in the title game of the OEC Championship on Saturday at the OCC Aquatics Pavilion.
The Orange Empire Conference men’s and women’s water polo tournament will start this Thursday at Orange Coast College. The men will open the tournament on Thursday with two quarterfinal games and two semifinal games with the women doing the same on Friday. The fifth place, third place and championship games will all be played on Saturday.
The water polo season is nearing the halfway point and conference play kicked into action this past week. Golden West looks like the favorite to repeat as Orange Empire Conference (OEC) champions with inter-district rival Orange Coast looking like its main threat.
Brazda is the only community college student-athlete in the nation to receive this year’s honor, recognized for his leadership, service, and excellence in athletics.
